Pay committee report: JAC objects to study by high-power panel

Government criticised for delaying implementation; huge rally planned

HYDERABAD: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Employees, Teachers and Workers has taken serious exception to the constitution of a high-power committee to study the PRC report and make recommendations. The JAC chairman, B. V. Subba Rao, and secretary-general, D.Sudhakar, at a press conference here on Friday flayed the Government for not implementing the recommendations. Mr. Rao said this was the first time that the Government had asked a committee to look into the report.

The committee, he said, could not make any recommendation and it was not proper for the Government to follow a new practice. "The standard practice is to send a copy of the PRC to the unions and follow it up by signing the agreement".

He demanded copies of the report, submitted by former IAS officer, J. Rambabu, be immediately made available to the unions. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had not bothered to initiate a dialogue with the unions eventhough the report was submitted, he remarked. Protesting against the delay, the JAC had asked its members to agitate for forcing the Government to act. Accordingly, they would hold black-flag demonstrations all over the State on July 29. The unions would stage demonstrations at all erstwhile taluk headquarters on August 3. The JAC planned a huge demonstration in Hyderabad on August 1.
