Beedi workers' plea
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The Andhra Pradesh Beedi and Cigar Workers Union has demanded that the Labour Department make public the list of workers who applied for sanction of houses under the Revised Integration Scheme introduced by the Central Government.
The union asked the Government to intervene in the matter for transparency in the scheme's implementation. In a press release, the State convenor G. Jyoti objected to the way the Labour Commissioner responded to the union's representation seeking amendments to the scheme, that would benefit more workers.
The Commissioner Rani Kumudini's comment that the Government was yet to receive a single application for the scheme was raising apprehensions among workers about the transparency, she said.
