Burn victim hailed from Coimbatore: Railway Police

He was staying in a room near his work spot. His father and roommates identified the body.

CHENNAI: Even as the Railway Police are trying to identify the person who died of burn injuries inside a coach of the Cheran Express on July 19, the police have information now that the victim belonged to Peelamedu.

A senior railway police official told The Hindu , when contacted, that the traveller hailed from Peelamedu in Coimbatore district. He was stated to be a diploma-holder and was working in Poonamallee near here and was staying in a room near his work spot.

His father and roommates identified the body. But the official said that those who identified the body did it based on the remnants of the lungi worn by the passenger. But, a scientific confirmation was required.

The body of the victim was completely burnt. The police are to seek the assistance of the Forensic Science Department.
