Chandy inaugurates hospital

KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated an eye hospital at the Lions Cancer hospital in Sasthamugal on Saturday. The hospital has facilities to rectify eyesight problems faced by children. Mr.Chandy praised the efforts made by Lions Clubs in eye care for the public. — Staff Reporter

Recognition for course

KOCHI: Cochin University of Science and Technology has decided to grant recognition to the Bachelor of Fisheries and Nautical Science course conducted by CIFNET. This was decided at the syndicate meeting of the university held on Saturday. The syndicate also gave permission to ER & DCI Institute of Technology to conduct an M.Tech course in VLSI and embedded system. — Staff Reporter

Logo released

KOCHI: The logo of `Monsoon Cine Fest 2005', organised by Elias Foundation, Thripunithura, was released at Hotel Prasanth here on Saturday. Film director and president of Malayalam Cine Technicians Association Sibi Malayil released the logo by handing it over to actor Jyothirmayi. Film director K.G. George, critic V.K. Joseph, writer B. Unnikrishnan, Sebastian K. Antony and director of the film festival and actor Ravinder spoke. K. K. Mohanan, Thripunithura municipality chairman, presided.— Staff Reporter

Sanskrit teachers

KOCHI: The final list of 1,000 teachers selected for the Sanskrit popularisation programme of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit will be published on August 1. A press release issued by the university said that reservation norms have been considered in the selection process. Sanskrit classes will begin in 1,000 schools in the State from August 3 onwards.— Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Minister for Fisheries and Sports Dominic Presentation, has said that the Government will take all steps to ensure reservation benefits for members belonging to the backward communities.
