Farewell to an illustrious teacher

TO SIR WITH LOVE: Gunapala Kadamba and his wife being felicitated at Moodbidri on Sunday.

MOODBIDRI: Moodbidri town on Sunday gave an emotional farewell to Gunapala Kadamba, one of the illustrious teachers the town has seen in recent years. It was also the first time that people of Moodbidri thought it fit that the town should give him a civic reception.

Mr. Kadamba during his 32 years of service in the town's Jain Pre-University college, had been a keen researcher of the history of the town as well as the folk sport of Kambala. He retired as the college's principal on Saturday. Mr. Kadamba is known as a strict disciplinarian and a resourceful teacher by the people of Moodbidri.

Felicitating Mr. Kadamba, leaders of the town such as Muniraja Renjala, Mohan Alva, K. Amarnath Shetty, Yashovarma and others praised Mr. Kadamba for giving "selfless service" to the people. Making a special mention of his service to Kambla, he was hailed as the person who brought reforms into Kambala, and through his hard work gave Kambala an international status. Mr. Kadamba said Moodbidri had inspired him to follow the virtues of life and its people have guided him and helped him in many ways.
