Four killed as bus falls off road

SHIMLA: Four people were killed and 13 injured, two of them seriously, when a private bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Palampur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, police said today.

The bus with 17 people on board fell into the gorge at Kandval village, 14 kms from Palampur, last evening.

Nirmala Devi, 40, was killed on the spot, while another identified as Medh Ram, 45, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Two other people identified as Nirmohi Ram, 55, and Sunny, 11, who were seriously injured, died in the Zonal Hospital at Dharmashala where they had been admitted.

The condition of the two seriously injured was critical, police and hospital sources said.

The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Palampur and were said to be out of danger.

Police said the bus was on its way to Guwaltikker from Palampur in the district when the driver failed to control the vehicle after it skidded off the road.

A case has been registered, police added.
