Students cast ballots to elect representatives

BANGALORE: The investiture ceremony of Oxford Senior Secondary School (CBSE) was held on July 22. This year, students elected the school captains as well as the vice-captains.

The principal of the school, Asha Manoharan, said: "The idea was to create awareness about elections among students."

At the investiture ceremony, co-curricular activity coordinators, housemistresses, the captains and the vice-captains were introduced to the gathering. The captains and the vice-captains came on the stage, received the induction letter from the principal, and signed the register.

Ms. Manoharan said the school aims to build leaders of tomorrow by kindling leadership qualities in them.

She urged the students to accept success as well as failure with equanimity. "God has created everybody with a purpose. Every child has some potential. When you realise what you are, everybody will start respecting you," Ms. Manoharan said.

Rahul. D. Kulkarni and Aparna Mahadevan were elected school captains and Aamir. M. Abbas and Pragyanshree Jagati vice-captains.

`Vinyasa Dhara'

The latent skills of students of Venkat International Public School came to the fore at "Vinyasa Dhara 2005" held from July 21 to 23. The event was a platform for students to showcase their talents. And they did it in style.

The events held as part of the talent festival included competitions in drawing, recitation, solo singing, and solo dancing.

Hair styling, glass painting and mad ads were also part of the event among many others. Interestingly, many boys took part in the "Cooking without fire" and flower arrangement competitions.

An exhibition of the works by students was held on the last day of the event.

Some students greeted the guests with brightly painted faces.

Art critic C.S. Krishna Shetty was the chief guest at the valedictory function. In his address, he gave "star ratings" to all the works.

"Our society not only needs software engineers, doctors and other professionals but also people from other walks of life," he said.

T. Balakrishna, Chairman of St. Ann's and Venkat Group of Institutions, announced that he would set up a recording studio soon for the benefit of students.

Anjali Shetty, theatre personality and dancer, and Sulochana Balakrishna, principal of Venkat International Public School, distributed certificates to the winners.

For the students, who had a whale of a time for three days, the moment of truth finally arrived when Mr. Balakrishna reminded them that Monday was the day to return to academics.

Sports meet

The annual sports meet and a competition in flower arrangement were conducted at APS Public School recently.

In the flower arrangement competition, the tasteful arrangement by little children added colour to the event.

The school principal, Pushpa Prasad, inaugurated the annual sports competition, and the children took part in the events with great enthusiasm.

Linguaphone lab

A "Linguaphone lab" was inaugurated at APS Public School recently.

The much-awaited English lab commenced its work with "Language through learning" as its motto.

"It is the second such lab in Bangalore and will help students as well as teachers," the principal of the school, Pushpa Prasad, said.
