CHENNAI: : The Consortium of Self-financing Professional, Arts and Sciences Colleges has started issuing hall tickets for the common entrance test scheduled for August 6 and 7 for admission to 183 engineering colleges. "We have streamlined our operations to enable students to get the hall tickets online as well as by post. On Monday, the first day of issue of hall tickets, 5,000 tickets were sent by post. They will be issued till August 5. The CET results will be declared as soon as possible, as the entire operation is fully computerised," consortium president Jeppiar told reporters here on Monday. The examination would be held in 175 centres, and the preparation of question papers had commenced. The consortium received 27,000 applications so far. The last date was July 27. Applications can also be downloaded from www.tnsfconsortium.org. The examination would be held in two phases: while the physical sciences examination would be held at 2.30 p.m. on August 6, the mathematics examination would be held at 10.30 a.m. the next day. "After completing the examination process, we would be ready to start classes on any date fixed by Anna University," Mr. Jeppiar said. Nearly 80 per cent of the 4127 seats reduced by the All-India Council for Technical Education in 51 colleges had been restored as "most colleges fulfilled the norms," he said. On June 6, the AICTE notified the reduction, citing shortage of faculty in the colleges and gave them time till July 7 to set right the imbalance. "The consortium has agreed to give all details sought by the AICTE," Mr. Jeppiar said.
