BANGALORE: Five people, including a one-year-old boy, suffered burns when miscreants poured an inflammable liquid into their house and set it on fire in the early hours of Monday. The police said that around 2.30 a.m., some persons climbed atop the roof of Harinath's house in Hongasandra in Madivala police station limits and removed the asbestos sheets. They poured inflammable fluid into the house and set it on fire. Harinath (30), a mason, his wife, Radhamma (23), their one-year-old son, Rajesh, and Radhamma's brothers, Sreenivasa (25) and Manjunath (19), who were asleep in the house, suffered burns. Household articles were damaged in the fire, the police said. When they tried to rush out of the house, they found that the door had been latched from outside. They broke open a window and came out. Their neighbours rushed them to the Victoria Hospital, and all the five are out of danger, the police said. The police suspect that a former neighbour of Harinath is behind the incident. A family from Kerala, which was running a bakery, was living near Harinath's house. They had quarrelled with Harinath's family and vacated their house about 20 days ago, the police said. A watchman of a garment factory situated adjacent to Harinath's house saw three members of the family in the area around 3 a.m., the police said. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Madivala), M. Nagaraja, told The Hindu that they have clues about the suspects and will arrest them soon. The Madivala police have registered a case.
