BSNL phone bill payment at eSeva centres picking up in urban city

4,000 utilise the facility since its launch in Krishna district

  • eSeva now available in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and the municipal towns of Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Nuzvid and Pedana
  • eSeva centres open from 9 am to 7 pm on working days and from 9 am to 3 pm on second Saturdays and Sundays
  • 85,000 to 90,000 BSNL customers in the city

VIJAYAWADA: Payment of BSNL telephone bills through eSeva centres is picking up at all the urban centres where the facility is presently made available. It has come as a big relief for BSNL customers, who need not stand in long queues any more at BSNL counters during the last days of bill payment.

The eSeva officials appeal to the customers to pay bills two to three days before last day to avoid last-minute rush. This is meant for payment of only landline telephone bills and not BSNL mobile phone bills. Since the launch of the facility on July 8, over 4,000 customers have paid their telephone bills through eSeva centres across the district.

Telephone bills can be paid at all eSeva centres in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and also municipal towns -- Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Nuzvid and Pedana.

    No service charges

As per the agreement with BSNL, eSeva will not collect any service charges from customers. There are 85,000 to 90,000 BSNL customers in the city and they have a big respite from standing for long hours at BSNL counters.

The district administration has taken steps to ensure that eSeva reaches out to BSNL customers in a big way. Inaugurated by the Joint Collector, P. Sampath Kumar, the telephone bill payment is being promoted by eSeva officials as one of the important services to expand its customer base.

The district coordinator of eSeva, M.V.B. Narasimha Rao, says that they are expecting a good patronage to BSNL bill payment service in the coming days. The eSeva centres remain open from 9 am to 7 pm on all working days and from 9 am to 3 pm on second Saturdays and Sundays. This is in contrast to the BSNL counters, which are open from 8 am to 3 pm and are closed on Sundays and second Saturdays. The only BSNL counter, which accepts payments from 8 am to 8 pm on all working days, is at BSNL Bhavan, Chuttugunta. It also remains closed on Sundays and second Saturdays.

Mr. Rao says that most customers are coming on the last day, which is leading to heavy rush at eSeva counters. Mr. Rao says that 15,000 to 20,000 customers pay electricity bills on the last days and the number comes to around 35,000 bills in the entire district.

This is two times more than the payments on the previous days. If the customers are distributed proportionately on the last three days of payment, it will be a free and a happy experience for themselves at the counters.
