125 years old and still going strong

NONE CAN disagree with the fact that Jesuit priests revolutionised Tamil society through their sacrifices and tireless efforts right from the time before our country received Independence the pre-Independence era. They brought quality education to the doorsteps of the poor and the oppressed at a time when education was the status symbol of the rich.

Whatever the field, most of the stalwarts in the country happened to have studied in one of the great institutions established by the Jesuits across the nation.

One of the oldest institutions of the Jesuits, St. Xavier's Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, celebrates its 125th year on July 29 and 30.

Ministers Nainar Nagendran and C.Ve. Shunmugam, Mayor A. Jayarani, and Collector Atul Anand participate in the final day of the celebrations.

An all-faith prayer hall is under construction on the school premises at an outlay of Rs.10 lakhs to commemorate the occasion.
