Walking tall with a mission

CHENNAI: Name: Raaj Pandey. Age: 33.

Married: With two daughters, age four and one-and-a-half.

Mission in life: To walk for 1,000 days across the length and breadth of India.

Message: Spreading the message of awareness and empowerment to fight against injustice.

The story so far: over 950 days and 15,000 km to go till he reaches New Delhi.

Will reach home only in: year 2008

Places covered: Started from Kanyakumari and went on to Kerala.

Next on the agenda: Karnataka

Biggest disappointment: "That I was not able to meet the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after I have completed walking 1,100 km in this State."

Happy moment: "Since he was busy, I spoke to the Kerala Chief Minister over the phone when I was there. He promised to give me complete support during my travels."

In his bag: Three sets of clothes, bedding, socks and toiletries.

Food and cash: "I live off what people contribute."

Calls home: "Every other night."

Wife's point of view: "She's managing the family business in the surgical industry. And I prepared her for six months before I started this padha yathra. She hasn't complained"

Duty as a parent: "I don't think my daughters need me right now. I will be with them when they are growing up."
