MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday reserved its orders on a batch of public interest litigations against the expansion of the Dalmia Cement Factory, at an estimated cost of Rs.430 crores, in Dalmiapuram near Tiruchi. A Division Bench comprising Justice K.P. Sivasubramaniam and Justice S.K. Krishnan reserved its orders after hearing marathon arguments from V.T. Gopalan, Additional Solicitor General of India, A.L. Somayaji, Additional Advocate General; senior counsel, R. Krishnamurthy, arguing for the factory, and senior counsel, K. Chandru, appearing for one of the petitioners. The petitioners alleged that the factory had flouted several environmental notifications and rules issued by the Central and State Governments.
