MADURAI: The Tiruchendur constituency Member of Parliament, V. Radhika Selvi (28), along with seven others, has moved an anticipatory bail petition in a riot case. The Eral police in Tuticorin district, on July 21, registered a case against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP and other party men, including a doctor and an advocate, under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 448 (house trespassing) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC, read with Section 25 (1) (a) of the Arms Act (possessing a fire arm or ammunition). According to the petitioners, the MP visited a sand-quarrying site on Tamiraparani riverbed on July 18 along with some of the party functionaries after receiving complaints of large-scale irregularities by government officials. Despite being accompanied by a few revenue and police officials, the Eral police, with a "political vendetta," registered a case against them on a false complaint preferred by an accountant of a private contractor three days after the incident, the petitioners alleged.
