Farmers opt for groundnut in Kurnool

Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: Groundnut crop is likely to cross its normal area of 1.80 lakh hectares in Kurnool district this year because of suitable climatic conditions. According to reports, the crop was sown over 72,000 hectare so far. The heavy rainfall in July and supply of seed at subsidised price encouraged more farmers to go for groundnut. On the other hand, many farmers are not likely to opt for cotton. The prolonged dry spell in May and June hampered sowing of mungari cotton, which is a popular seasonal crop in the district.
