Municipal Commissioner assures to improve amenities

  • Improvement of roads, drains, sanitation to be taken up
  • Drinking water supply to be regulated
  • Construction of 10 lakh litres capacity reservoir nearing completion

ANANTAPUR: The second phase of an estimated Rs. 7.35-crore works under the Andhra Pradesh Urban Services Poor project funded by the DFID will be launched soon, according to Anantapur Municipal Corporation Commissioner C. Nagaraja Rao.

Talking to newspersons here on Tuesday, he said that Anantapur was one of the very few civic bodies in the State which was in a position to take up development works with general funds. In spite of the huge gap between the revenue and expenditure, the upgraded civic body was able to offer fair services to the citizens, he claimed.

Works like improvement of internal roads, drains, sanitation, and others would be taken up under the second phase of APUSP. He admitted that there was the problem of streetlights in the town and it would be rectified soon. On drinking water supply, he said the corporation was supplying 20 million litres per day against the requirement of 30 MLD. However, the per capita supply was better than the State average, he said. Instead of going for new sources, the corporation was planning to regulate the available water so that it reached all the areas. A ground level service reservoir with 10 lakh litres capacity was nearing completion and it would supply water to tail-end colonies in a few wards.
