Mixed fortune for Indians

NEW DELHI: International Masters Poobesh Anand, S. Satyapragyan and Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury held higher rated Russians most Indians met moderate success in the fourth round of the Czech Open chess tournament in Pardubice on Monday.

Satyapragyan drew 10th seeded IM Boris Savchenko, rated 2560, Chowdhury proved equal to 20th seeded Grandmaster Marat Makarov (2514) and Poobesh, one of the overnight leaders, signed peace with IM Alexei Gavrilov (2464).

GM Tejas Bakre won and joined Poobesh in pack that followed Russian leaders Valeri Shalimov and Yur Vovli. However, M. R. Venkatesh, Eesha Karavade, Rahul Shetty and Kruttika Nadig were among the losers.

The results (Fourth round, involving Indians): Poobesh Anand (3.5) drew with Alexei Gavrilov (Rus, 3.5); S. Satyapragyan (3) drew with Boris Savchenko (Rus, 3); Nicolai Pedersen (Den, 3.5) bt M. R. Venkatesh (3.5); Vadim Zaitsev (Rus, 3) drew with S. Kidambi (3).

Tejas Bakre (3.5) bt Eugenia Chasovnikova (Rus, 2.5); Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury (2.5) drew with Marat Makarov (Rus, 2.5); Eesha Karavade (2) lost to Pavel Anisimov (Rus, 3); Andrey Sumets (Ukr, 2.5) drew with D. V. Prasad (2.5).

Jakub Czakon (Pol, 2.5) drew with Tania Sachdev (2.5); Martin Rehorek (Cze, 1.5) lost to Sandipan Chanda (2.5); Nadezhda Polivoda (Blr, 2.5) bt Rahul Shetty (1.5); Kruttika Nadig (1) lost to Tomas Zeleny (Cze, 2).
