Guntur
Staff Reporter
GUNTUR: The Guntur Municipal Corporation has constituted a special cell to prevent the outbreak of epidemics, as a result of the rains in the city during the last few days, said the Municipal Commissioner D. Rama Rao. At a review meeting of health workers, sanitary staff and the nursing students at the corporation meeting hall on Tuesday, he said that this was the most crucial time to spread the awareness message. There was a great need of awareness among the people living in rain water-inundated areas, he said. The Municipal Commissioner said that they had also involved 70 nursing students in the cell by dividing them into a number of teams and sent them to slum areas in the city. They would educate the people for five days on the steps to prevent malaria and distribute the pamphlets prepared by the GMC.
Phone numbers
People, whose colonies were affected as a result of the rainwater entering their homes, could call up the special cell of the GMC on phone numbers: 2221832, 226 3742 or 98499 08371 for immediate response, he said. The District Medical and Health Officer M. Sonar Babu instructed the staff to take all precautions to prevent the outbreak of malaria. He assured the supply of necessary medicines and stressed the need for consuming only boiled and pre-cooled drinking water. The Municipal Health Officer Shabbir Ahmed and the District Malaria Officer Anil Kumar also spoke.
