Abolition of 15 committees approved

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Legislative Council on Tuesday approved a motion abolishing the 15 subject committees, while the Opposition demanded that they be retained for allowing a detailed discussion on the departments. The Legislative Assembly had passed the motion in the last budget session and Tuesday's motion was only a formality.

The motion under the Karnataka Legislative Council rules relating to the subject committees standing in the name of the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, was moved by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, H.C. Mahadevappa. He sought removal of the rules numbering 274 to 285 for the purpose. The Leader of Opposition, D.H. Shankaramurthy, the Janata Dal (U) floor leader, M.P. Nadagouda, and V.S. Ugrappa, opposed it.
