VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indo-Nepal Rudraksha Organisation (INRO) is currently organising a 10-day exhibition-cum-sale of `Rudrakshas' at Hotel Daspalla. The main aim of the exhibition was to create awareness among the general public about the importance of Rudraksha and their benefits, INRO representative K. Narendra told a media conference.
Types
Referring to the `Puranas', he said that Rudrakshas were believed to have emerged from the tears that fell from the third eye of Lord Shiva. Later, Rudraksha plants were born. ``Though there are 27 types of Rudrakshas according to the Puranas, only 18 varieties have been found so far. The round shaped ekamukhi Rudraksha is very rare while the panchmukhi Rudraksha is common. The price ranges from a mere Rs.50 for a single panchamukhi to Rs.35,000 for a chaturdasamukhi (14-face) Rudraksha,'' Mr. Narendra said. He said that Rudrakshas were available in Nepal, Hardwar, Kerala, Indonesia and Australia. Visitors could also get their Rudrakshas tested for their genuineness, and free consultation would be given at the exhibition. INRO, which has its head office at Kathmandu, has a branch in Hyderabad.
