Official reviews rain situation

SHIMOGA: A meeting was held here on Tuesday under the presidentship of the Assistant Commissioner (Shimoga Sub-division), to review the situation arising out of the copious rain in the district. The representatives of the Municipal Council, Public Works, Police and Education departments attended the meeting.

The meeting asked the Block Education Officer to see that children of the school situated beside the Korpalaiah Choultry do not come to the Tunga bank in view of its rising level. It decided to write to the authorities not to release water into the Tunga channel as it might rush into the houses in Venkatesh Nagar near Lakshmi Talkies.

The meeting identified places for shifting people residing in low-lying areas and asked officials of the municipal council, the Police and Revenue departments to be prepared to shift people from the affected areas in event of flash floods.

The areas likely to be affected by flash floods are: Kumbargundi, Imambad (Muradnagar) Bapuji Nagar, Venkatesh Nagar on the embankment of the channel in Hosmane, Ravindranagar, Rajiv Gandhi extension (Madaripalya) and Gundappa Shed.
