CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Private Professional Colleges Association - Health Sciences has been permitted by the Justice S.S. Subramani Committee to conduct a common entrance test (CET) to admit students to management quota seats in private medical and paramedical colleges in the State. As per the tentative programme given by the Association to Justice Subramani, the CET will be held on August 28 to fill nearly 3,200 seats in one medical college, seven dental colleges and a host of institutions offering pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and Indian medicine courses. Isari K. Ganesh, secretary of the association, told newspersons here on Wednesday that as per the order dated July 22, the Permanent Committee for Common Entrance Test for Private Educational Institutions in Tamil Nadu headed by Justice Subrmanai, resolved to authorise the association to hold the CET for UG medical/paramedical courses for 2005-06. "Now that the order has been given, the association will hold the test for all the 146 medical and paramedical colleges, including its 133 members. The test will be held in Chennai, Vellore, Tiruchi, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Coimbatore and Salem in the State, Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and Kochi in Kerala," said Dr. Ganesh. A claim made by the All-India Medical and Engineering Colleges Association (AIMECA) to hold the test on the ground that it had 112 members, was rejected by the Committee. The application forms and prospectus will be on sale from August 1, at the Consortium office (at New Colony, Chromepet, Chennai 600 044 - Phone 55183784/5567 6579) or can be downloaded from www.tncohs.org from August 1. The last date for sending in filled-in applications is August 18. According to the consortium's administrative officer, R.D. Tirumalai, the results would be announced on September 12 and the classes commence on October 1.
