Classroom fight over desk proves fatal

  • Student beaten up in classroom. Senior Mohd. Ujala approached
  • Ujala confronts accused, heated argument ensures
  • In a fit of rage the accused fatally stabs Ujala with a carpenter's chisel

NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, a young schoolboy allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old senior to death following a quarrel over a trivial matter at Paschim Vihar in West Delhi on Wednesday. The accused has been arrested.

According to the police, the accused, a student of Class VIII in Government Boys' Senior Secondary School at Madipur in Paschim Vihar, had fought with one of his classmates over occupying a certain desk in the classroom earlier in the day.

His classmate had then approached Mohammad Chand Ujala, a resident of Madipur and a student of Class IX in the same school, whom he knew. Ujala confronted the accused over the issue following which the two had a heated argument around 1 p.m.

At that point, however, matters seemed settled. But when the classes got over around 3-30 p.m., the accused again began arguing with Ujala outside the school gate. Soon they came to blows. Then in a fit of rage, the accused grabbed a chisel from the nearby carpenter's shop and stabbed Ujala in his stomach and chest. Everything happened so suddenly that the carpenter did not even have time to react. Ujala collapsed on the ground and died on the spot. Subsequently, the police were informed.

In the past two days, this is the second incident in which a schoolboy has lost his life after allegedly fighting with another student. A Class VII student of Central School at Gole Market in New Delhi had died on Tuesday after his classmate allegedly pushed him while playing during the recess. However, the police had ruled out any foul play and said that the boy had died due to illness.

Meanwhile, a case of murder has been registered at Paschim Vihar police station. The accused would be sent to the remand home for boys. Further investigations in the case are on.
