SYMBOLIC GIFT: A screw pine replica of theTaj
President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will be presented with a replica of the Taj Mahal, made from screw pine (thazhappaya) by the Kottappuram Integrated Development Society (KIDS) on Friday when he visits Kodungalloor. The presentation is a symbolic one because KIDS has been helping screw pine mat weavers through the cooperative movement. About 30,000 families in the Kodungalloor area make a living churning out products from screwpine. The screwpine replica of Taj Mahal being presented to Dr. Kalam will be two feet in length and one-and-a-half feet in breadth.
