SALEM: The Association of Licensed Building Surveyors has appealed to the Salem Corporation and the Local Planning Authority (LPA) to control middlemen who drafted building plans without engaging licensed building surveyors and submitted them for approval. Association members, who met here on Monday to discuss the problems in obtaining building plan approvals and amendments to be introduced in the building rules, had decided to write a letter to the Corporation Commissioner, Chairman of the LPA and the Commissioner of Town and Country Planning. They alleged that a few employees at the Corporation were also preparing draft plans and submitting them for approval. They urged the officials concerned to stop entertaining them. "If the Corporation fails to initiate action against the middlemen, the association will take up the issue with the Government," members said. The association condemned a few licensed surveyors who endorsed drafts prepared by middlemen. It requested the authorities concerned to cancel the licence of surveyors who indulged in such activities. The members said all the 15 Scheme Areas in the city, which were authorised a long ago with a set of scheme rules, were fully developed and that it was difficult to adhere to the scheme rules. The planning bodies should relax the rules and allow land users to follow only the building rules.
