Comfortable win for ACA

BANGALORE: The Australian Cricket Academy XI romped to an 88-run victory over NCA Colts at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Thursday.

The visitors scored 252 with skipper and opener Clint Heron leading the way with a 91 while NCA seamer Gaurav Dhiman grabbed three wickets but was punished in the slog overs.

NCA skipper and leg spinner Piyush Chawla bowled an economical spell of 10-0-39-0 but it was a day when he was forced to gnash his teeth as his batsmen made a mess of chasing the target later in the afternoon. NCA was struggling at 11 for four in five overs as seamers

Trent Kelly and Nathan Reardon scythed through the top-order.

NCA's woes continued as Rohit Sharma (26) charged down from the non-striker's crease and was left stranded while striker Shan-E-Alam stood his ground.

The rest fell to the brilliance of the Aussies in the outfield as sharp catches were plucked out of thin air and eventually it was left to the ninth-wicket pair of Mandeep Singh (46 not out) and Abu Nachim (34) to delay the inevitable.

Eventually NCA was bowled out for 164 in 48.1 overs.

The teams will travel to Mysore for a three-day match commencing at the Infosys Ground on July 30.

The scores:

ACA XI 252 in 49.2 overs (Clint Heron 91, Nathan Reardon 43, Gaurav Dhiman three for 53) bt NCA Colts XI 164 in 48.1 overs (Mandeep Singh 46 not out). — Sports Reporter
