KATHMANDU: Riot police clashed with students here on Thursday injuring several of them as the protests against the detention of a student leader spread to other parts of the Himalayan Kingdom. At least six students and three policemen were injured and a police van was damaged during skirmishes between police and students who shouted anti-King slogans, official sources said. The protests, which occurred in cities outside Kathmandu also, came a day after popular student leader Gagan Thapa was arrested here and remanded to seven days judicial custody. He has been charged with sedition for leading anti-King protests. The police baton-charged the students, who in turn pelted stones, creating an atmosphere of tension outside the college premises in Baghbazaar, Dillibazar and Bhrikutimandap areas.
