KANNUR: AKG Memorial Co-operative Hospital is launching year-long special treatment schemes for economically backward sections to mark its 25th anniversary.

Hospital society president K.P. Sahadevan said at a press conference here on Thursday that the hospital would launch a free accident treatment scheme for motor workers. Those who join the scheme will get a concession of up to Rs.10,000 a year in treatment expense. Injuries caused by accidents, monsoon calamities, flooding, lightning, landslip and snakebite will be covered under the scheme, he said. An insurance amount of Rs.50,000 will be given to the relatives of a beneficiary in the event of his death, he added. The hospital society will introduce the `Arogya Mithra' to include 500 families below poverty line (BPL) in a one-year healthcare scheme, which will provide treatment up to Rs.30,000 to the members. Life insurance coverage under the scheme will be Rs.25,000. The hospital was targeting BPL families in the municipality and nearby panchayats, Mr. Sahadevan said. The hospital expected to provide a concession to the tune of Rs.1.5 crores a year under this scheme, Mr. Sahadevan said.

The hospital society had also decided to operate a diabetic clinic on Sundays.

Another clinic will co-ordinate the gynaecology and urology departments for treatment of male and female infertility disorders, he said.

The hospital will launch a health scheme for 6,000 society members. Mr. Sahedevan said the hospital would offer 25 per cent concession to patients who were admitted to the general ward of the hospital. A new 100-bed block of the hospital will also be opened, he added.
