KANNUR: Some movable items including furniture and electric fans in the District Collectorate here were attached on Thursday by officials of the Thalassery Sub Court for failing to settle the compensation amount due to an individual in a land acquisition case. The court had ordered the attachment of movable properties in the Collectorate on a compensation complaint filed by K. Khader Haji at Edayannur here in respect of his land acquired at Moorkhanparamba near Mattannur for the proposed Kannur airport project. He moved the court on the ground that the compensation paid to him was very low. The court awarded a compensation of Rs. 13.18 lakhs to the complainant. The court staff and bailiff arrived at the Collectorate at around 12 noon and ordered the attachment of the movable properties there. The properties attached were 100 wooden shelves, 100 wooden chairs, 60 ceiling fans, one each Xerox machine and air-conditioner. Additional District Magistrate P. Ramdas said that the seized properties listed as attached were not taken away from the office premises. The listed properties were returned to the Collectorate. The court staff were at the Collectorate till afternoon assessing and listing the attached properties. This was the second case of Collectorate property attachment in connection with a case of acquisition of land at Moorkhanparamba. According to officials here, 55 such cases were still pending. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has called Collector K.R. Srinivas for a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on August 1 to discuss the settlement of these cases, they said.
