AIADMK workers observe fast

Centre flayed on Cauvery issue

DINDIGUL: : About 1,500 volunteers of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, led by Social Welfare Board Chairperson C. R. Saraswathi observed a dawn-to-dusk fast at Nagal Nagar here on Thursday, demanding release of Cauvery water from Karnataka.

District-level leaders and ruling party MLAs, who took part in the fast, condemned the Centre for not making efforts to direct Karnataka to release water for Tamil Nadu.

Theni

About 2,000 partymen, led by Rajya Sabha MP T. T. V. Dinakaran observed a fast on Periakulam-Dindigul main road in Theni.

Ramanathapuram

More than 500 cadres of the AIADMK observed a token fast in Ramanathapuram.

U.R. Krishnan and K. Sankaradoss, Joint Secretaries of Labour Wing of the party, presided over the fast observed at Aranmanai.

C. Murugesan, district secretary, Anwar Raja, MLA and others participated.

Sivaganga

S. N. Rajendran, organising secretary, presided over the protest held at Aranmanai Vasal in Sivaganga.

More than 500 cadres including district decretary Karuppiah, MLAs Chandran, Umadevan and Nadarajan participated.

Virudhunagar

Hundreds of cadres observed a fast here on Thursday. The party State Minority Wing leader, A. Justine Selvaraj, led the cadres in the agitation held at the Desabandhu Ground here. The district secretary, R. Vinayagamoorthy, and MLAs, S. Rajasekaran and K.K. Sivasamy, were present.

Madurai

The Anna Thozhirsanga Peravai State general secretary, S.T.K. Jaggayan, led the agitation. At least 1,000 cadres, including 200 women, resorted to the fast near Tallakulam and raised slogans.

Former Ministers, C. Durairaj, and Valarmathi Jebaraj, MLAs V.R. Rajangam (Sholavandan), R. Samy (Melur), S.M. Seenivel (Tirupparankundram), M.A. Hakeem (Madurai Central) and P. Ponnambalam (Samayanallur) and the Madurai urban district secretary, A.K. Bose, spoke.
