DAVANGERE: The Deputy Commissioner, M.B. Dyaberi, has instructed all officers to be prepared to tackle any eventuality in the wake of heavy rainfall in the district. He has asked them not to leave the headquarters until the situation stabilises. Chairing a progress review meeting here on Thursday, Mr. Dyaberi asked officials to take steps to rehabilitate those who have lost their houses in the rains. He directed tahsildars and village accountants to remain in the headquarters and identify villages which are likely to be affected by flash floods. People living in such villages should be shifted to safer places. If necessary, they should be accommodated in temples and schools, he added. Mr. Dyaberi noted that he has been receiving reports of damage to private property owing to rains. Investigating officers have been appointed in each taluk to oversee the implementation of the food-for-work programme, he said. The Assistant Commissioners of Davangere and Harpanahalli subdivisions, the Joint Director of Agriculture and the Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies are among the investigating officers appointed to supervise the programme, he added.
