"Consistent with Kyoto Protocol"

Special Correspondent

The New Partnership on Clean Development and Climate would share experiences

NEW DELHI: New Delhi has said that the New Partnership on Clean Development and Climate announced by Australia, China, Japan, Republic of Korea, U.S. and itself on Thursday on the sidelines of the Asia Regional Forum (ARF) Meeting in Vientiane, Laos was consistent with and would complement the Kyoto Protocol.

An official statement by the Ministry of Environment and Forests said the Partnership would share experiences in developing and implementing the national sustainable development and energy strategies. Collaboration is envisaged both in the short and long term range of conventional, renewable, nuclear and emerging energy technologies, it said.

The Partnership is aimed at developing, deploying and transferring cleaner, more efficient technologies to meet nationally designed strategies for pollution reduction, energy security and climate change concerns, consistent with the principles of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

"We each have different natural resource endowments, and sustainable development and energy strategies, but we are already working together and will continue to work to achieve common goals'', the vision statement issued at Laos said.
