RUN-THROUGH: A rehearsal conducted by the police at Parumala in Pathanamthitta district on Thursday afternoon in connection with the visit of President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Friday.
PATHANAMTHITTA: Parumala, near Mannar, is all set to receive President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who is scheduled to reach the Parumala Devaswom Board College ground in an helicopter at 4.25 p.m. on Friday. The district administration and the police have made elaborate security arrangements in Parumala for the VVIP visit. Two Air Force officials are camping at Parumala to ensure the smooth landing of the helicopters at the three specially built helipads on the college grounds. The police have conducted a rehearsal at the helipad and the meeting venue on Thursday afternoon. The President will be accorded a rousing reception at the D. B. College ground. District Collector Rabeendra Kumar Agarwal, District Superintendent of Police T. P. Rajagopal, C. S. Sujatha and P. J. Kurien, MPs, and college Principal K. Mohanan Pillai will receive the President at the college grounds. Dr. Kalam will plant a peepal sapling on the college premises before leaving for the inauguration of the telemedicine facility at the Cardio Vascular Centre attached to the nearby St. Gregorios Mission Hospital. The President will have first hand information on the modern cardiac care and surgical facilities at the centre, which is perhaps the only one of its kind in a village, according to its chairman and eminent cardiac surgeon K. M. Cherian. Dr. Kalam will inaugurate the telemedicine facility at a meeting to be held in the hospital auditorium later. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy; Agriculture Minister K.R. Gouri, Dr. Cherian and hospital medical director Alex Paul will also address the meeting.
