HUBLI: K.J.S. Naidu, Chief Engineer (Coordination) and Chairman, Institute of Permanent Way Engineers, South Western Railway, has called upon the patrolling staff to be more vigilant during monsoon. Speaking at a seminar on `Vulnerable locations and monsoon patrolling' here on Wednesday, Mr. Naidu said patrolling of tracks is a continuous process and the field staff should always be alert. He cautioned engineering staff against taking hasty decisions during complex situations. Whenever any portion of the railway track is likely to affected by natural calamities like heavy rains, floods, storms and civil disturbances, the staff should always patrol according to special instructions, Mr. Naidu said. He called upon the staff to ensure that all equipment is available in advance and keep a watch on vulnerable locations such as sharp curves and hill slopes with history of landslips. Trilok Nath Perti, General Manager, SWR, opined that patrolling is the most important thing in railways. s"We cannot continue to live in the past. Technology has advanced. Depending upon the available information, make of use of the best technology and rise to the occasion", Mr. Perti said. Dharampal, Senior Deputy General Manager, SWR spoke about the precautionary measures to be taken during the pre-monsoon and the monsoon period. Radhacharan, Chief Safety Officer, spoke on the communication aspect.
