CUDDAPAH: Ten acres of land will be cultivated using drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, with technical expertise from an Israeli firm, Netasis, and N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (NGRAU), in the Agricultural Research Station (ARS) at Utukur in Chintakommadinne mandal, the varsity Vice-Chancellor S. Raghuvardhan Reddy said on Wednesday. The ARS would be developed with Rs. 50 lakhs already sanctioned and construction of Agriculture Polytechnic would be commenced on the premises on August 15, he said. A sum of Rs. 40 lakhs was also sanctioned for setting up a Krishi Vignana Kendra, he added. Dr. Raghuvardhan Reddy inspected sites for cultivation by drip and sprinkler irrigation and for constructing the agricultural polytechnic buildings on ARS premises. Block fruit-bearing plantation was taken up on 125 acres on the Sri Venkateswara University Post-Graduate Centre here last year at a cost of Rs. 15 lakhs, he said. Expressing content at the maintenance of the plantation, he said plantation was taken up on 175 acres with Rs. 16 lakhs. He assured development of the centre with a grant of Rs. 40 lakhs by the Agricultural University. The plantation was launched to develop 450 acres of dry land on the premises and transform it into a `Haritha Vanam,' he said. The ARS Director of Research P. Raghava Reddy, Associate Director Chenchu Reddy, Senior Scientist Sankara Reddy, Agricultural University board member P. Jahara Banu, Special Officer of the PG Centre Siva Reddy, and Training Organiser Penchal Reddy, took part.
