THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: President A. P. J. Kalam on Thursday called for an efficient delivery system and quality content generation to make tele-education proposed under the EDUSAT programme a success. Inaugurating the first interactive network on EDUSAT here, Mr. Kalam said quality content generation for classrooms was possible with the help of three components - lectures, practicals and libraries. It should be appealing and should be generated with the help of experts in the field. He said EDSAT could widen its reach by promoting the self-learning method by giving emphasis to the question and answer methodology. It would also utilise digital library facilities that were now being put in place so that it could be made accessible to students in remote areas. He said Internet could be another useful tool provided the sources were carefully assessed for authenticity. In addition, animation and graphics could be used to enhance the visual effect. He said that EDUSAT need to be con nected with the village knowledge centres that were being now established in the country. Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation G. Madhavan Nair said that ISRO would provide priority connectivity to Malappuram and Lakshadweep. It was also examining the possibilities of integrating medical education through connectivity. Education Minister E. T. Mohammed Basheer and Higher Education Secretary P. J. Thomas attended the function.
