NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Thursday sentenced two young men to life imprisonment, holding them guilty of stabbing to death a 30-year-old woman before her two children at Sangam Vihar in South Delhi in 2003. Awarding the sentence to 19-year-old Dwarka and 20-year-old Surender, the Additional Sessions Judge, Lal Singh, also imposed a fine of Rs. 4,000 each on them. Evidence by the two kids of the deceased, Asha, proved clinching in wresting the conviction of the accused. In their separate statements before the court, the two children, Sonu Kumar and Anil Kumar, said the accused had overpowered their mother and stabbed her several times. Allowing the plea of the prosecution for a deterrent punishment to the convicts, the Additional Sessions Judge said: "The prosecution has been able to prove the case beyond all reasonable doubts.'' According to the chargesheet filed by the Sangam Vihar police, the accused had trespassed into the house of the deceased and stabbed her many times. She was rushed to All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) by family members where she was declared brought dead, the chargesheet stated. There is another accused in the case. Since he is a juvenile, he would face a separate trial in a juvenile court, the Judge said. Regarding the motive of the crime, the Judge said that the two convicts had committed the crime just to assist the juvenile accused who had some grudge against the deceased.
