Students' call

NEW DELHI: School children came together at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here on Wednesday to give a clarion call to the international community to eliminate terrorism across the world.

Participating in an elocution contest on "Children Against Global Terrorism'' -- part of the commemorative events for the Beslan Appeal-- 37 children from 17 different schools in Delhi, Faridabad, Noida and Gurgaon put forward their point for a peaceful world.

The contest was organised jointly by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and Nehru Bal Samiti. Golden medals were awarded to Spandana Bhattarcharya and Dhananjaya Grover from DPS Mathura Road; Udit, Vasudev, and Deepak from NBS Bal Vikas Vidyalaya, Masjid Moth; Rahul Sethi from DAV School, Faridabad; and Aishwarya Nair, St. Cecilia Public School, Vikaspuri.

Community's demand

NEW DELHI: The All India Vaish Federation has demanded a share in power according to its population all over the country.

Since the community has a large presence in terms of population as well as economic activities, it should be compensated accordingly, it said. It has also decided to construct a Vaish Home in Delhi . At a convention here recently the Federation honoured a number of leaders

School facilities

NEW DELHI: Criticising the Delhi Government for failing to provide basic facilities in schools run by the MCD, tLeader of the Opposition in MCD Subhash Arya said on Thursday that nearly 238 classrooms were still functioning from tents.

Arguing that MCD was duty-bound to provide free books, uniform, socks, shoes, bags and mid-day meals to 9.5 lakh children studying in 1,850 schools, Mr Arya said: "The Administration has failed to provide these basic facilities.''
