MADIKERI: The Coffee Board has decided not to buy White Stem Borer (WSB)-infested stems for transportation and disposal outside coffee growing areas. According to a press release from the office of the Deputy Director (Extension) of the Board, the decision comes in the wake of a ban on transportation and movement of the WSB-infested stems from one place to another under the Pest Act. The Board has directed all growers to uproot the affected plants and burn them to prevent the spread of the disease as directed under the Pest Act of 1968. On the other hand, the Board has come up with certain measures to control the WSB pests, found in Arabica coffee. The board has advocated Intensive campaigns on integrated pest management and implementation of the Pest Act.
