CPI warns of `serious repercussions'

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India has warned the Centre of ``far-reaching'' repercussions for the Haryana Government's `failure to restrain the police from committing atrocities on workers.'

Talking to reporters on Thursday after returning from Gurgaon, where the Left had given a call for an industrial bandh to protest against police action on Monday, CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said the party was saddened by the manner in which the concern and sympathy expressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi were being translated on the ground.

He said the Haryana police had turned Gurgaon into a `police camp.' ``We are not holding out any threat but if such things go on uninterrupted, then it is either double talk or the Haryana police is beyond the control of its political leadership,'' he alleged.
