As long as the Left Front is in power in West Bengal such an incident will not be allowed to occur in the State: Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee
KOLKATA: The ruling Left Front in West Bengal has announced its support to the All India Protest Day called by Central Left trade unions on August 1 in protest against the police action on workers of the Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Private Limited in Gurgaon on July 25. A rally condemning the police atrocities will be organised in the city on that day. "We are extending support to the nationwide protest day called by four Left trade unions against the barbaric attack by the police on the factory workers," the Chairman of the Left Front Committee and Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Biman Bose, said here on Thursday. "As long as the Left Front is in power in West Bengal such an incident will not be allowed to occur in the State", Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has said.
Processions taken out
Processions organised by the Left front were taken out in different parts of the State on Thursday protesting the police action in Gurgaon. In all, 14 trade unions and workers' federations in the State have in a joint statement also extended their support to the August 1 protest day.
Agitations to implement CMP
The CPI(M) is also organising a series of agitational programmes to pressure the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre to implement the provisions of the Common Minimum Programme, Mr. Bose added.
