Says that Government has special packages for entrepreneurs

  • Special economic zones created in different parts of Karnataka
  • Infrastructure made available in areas like Gulbarga, Raichur and Bidar
  • Red carpet to be laid for those setting up ventures in the areas of power, highways and airports

HYDERABAD: The Karnataka Government has invited entrepreneurs from Andhra Pradesh to invest in the special economic zones (SEZ) created in different parts of the State as well as in the areas like Gulbarga, Raichur and Bidar where necessary infrastructure is being made available.

The Government is also offering special packages for investors willing to set up their ventures in the areas of power, highways and airports and a red carpet has been laid out for prospective entrepreneurs, Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh has said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Suminfra 2005 organised by the CII - Southern Region, Mr. Singh, who was here on Thursday, explained the various initiatives launched by his Government for the development of industrial infrastructure.

    In the pipeline

There were several projects like international airport, phase II of the Cauvery, IV stage drinking water scheme, flyovers, Rs. 491-crore hi-tech city and the peripheral ring road project coming up in Bangalore, the `most favoured' investment destination in the country.

The Government had signed a MoUs of more than Rs. 1,000 crores for taking up water supply, underground drainage and elevated road projects while the Central Government's nod was awaited for taking up Rs. 6,500 crores Bangalore metro rail project.

The Government, however, did not confine itself to Bangalore and efforts to set up multi-sector SEZs related to IT, textiles, automobile and food processing were being developed at Hassan, Mangalore, Belgaum, Gulbarga and Tumkur.

Formalities for setting up new airports at Hassan, Gulbarga and Mysore were completed pending concurrence of the Central Government.
