KOLLAM: Poet O.N.V. Kurup is acting in the celluloid documentation of his own creation `Bhoomikkoru Charamageetam' (A Requiem for Earth). The "poetic'' acting was shot at a picturesque location on the banks of Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam city on Thursday. In the documentary film, ONV pairs with actress Kavya Madhavan they portray a guru-sishya relationship. The poet was at ease in front of the camera as much as he would have been with pen and paper. In the film, ONV is not acting but rather living as poet ONV. The occasion once more gave him the opportunity to reminisce the first time he had won a prize for poetry recitation at a venue that was not far away from the location. Directed by Sarat, the documentary is scripted and produced by an ONV protégeé, Jolly Zacharia, who had done research on the `colour consciousness of ONV poems' and obtained a doctorate for that. The film is a dream come true for Ms. Zacharia. Talking to The Hindu , she said that `Bhoomikkoru Charamageetam' tops the list of the ONV poems which have captivated her. When mentioned to ONV about her desire to documenting the poem, his first reaction was a query on who would be the director. When she replied that it would be Mr. Sarat, there were no second thoughts for ONV to endorse it. The film or rather the poem deals with the subject of environmental awareness. The poem was written more than 20 years ago at a time when the Silent Valley was under threat. The film will be like an allegory on environmental degradation and erosion of human values.
