TIRUCHI: : Immigration authorities apprehended one Balachandran (30) belonging to Nelmadhur in Ramanathapuram district, finding him with a fake passport upon his arrival from Singapore on Thursday.
According to the officials, he was arrested on charges of using a fake passport, found to be in the name of one Suresh of Vadugapatti in Pudukottai district, and affixing his photo against Suresh's name.
Upon an interrogation, he revealed that he had left for Singapore from Chennai in 2004, to work as a labourer and had lost his passport there. Forced into a compelling situation to attend the funeral of a relative in his native place, he had sought the help of his friend, Thangavelu, at Singapore, to obtain the fake passport.
The Immigration officials handed over Balachandran to the airport police, after an enquiry.
