THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: : The Department of Politics, University of Kerala, would soon offer an elective course on Nehruvian Studies. This new initiative comes as part of the setting up of a Nehru Studies Centre at the department that would be funded for the 10th plan period by the University Grants Commission (UGC). According to head of the department of Politics G. Gopakumar the new centre would organise national and international conferences on topics relating to Nehru, his life and ideals. "Nehruvian ideals appear to have gone out of fashion these days. The centre would seek to bring back into public attention the work and vision of Nehru," he said. The centre would also draw up short courses on Nehru; courses that can be studied by those wishing to gain insights into Nehruvian thinking on subjects ranging from secularism to foreign policy. The department is one of the eight centres in the country that have been sanctioned a study centre on a famous personality.
