Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in Kodambakkam, Perambur, Ice House, Ambattur, Sastri Nagar, Sowcarpet, Anna Salai, Pudupet, Choolai, J.J. Nagar, Raj Bhavan, Nanganallur, Guindy, Dhasarthapuram and Mahalingapuram on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Dumping debris

Chennai Corporation has notified the Arcot Road, Vanniyar Street junction at Virugambakkam as an alternative site for dumping construction debris at Zone 8.

The present site at Corporation Nursery on Kodambakkam High Road will be converted into a park. The Corporation had earlier allotted sites for dumping debris in all zones to prevent public from hindering traffic and causing environmental polllution, a release said

Yoga therapy

Yoga Therapy & Research Institute will organise a month-long yoga course for diabetes patients from August 1 to 30 between 7 a.m and 8 at Andhra Mahila Sabha in Adyar.

Diocesan convention

Ten parishes of Madras Diocese are jointly conducting a three-day convention at the Madras Christian College premises in Chetpet. Metropolitan Yakob Mar Irenios inaugurated the convention on Thursday.

International conference

The International Conference on tsunami, disaster management and coastal development will be held on July 30 and 31 at Taj Coromandel. The conference is organised by Madras Development society and co-sponsored by the Ministries of Environment and Forests, Commerce and Industry, Social Justice and Empowerment, Science and Technology and other departments with technical support from Oxfam.

The conference aims to create awareness about various aspects of disaster management.

BSNL plan

BSNL landlines that have been disconnected for non-payment of dues will be reconnected provided the consumer pays dues. Rental for the disconnected period will not be collected from the consumer under this scheme, from August 1 to October 31. The scheme is applicable to STD-PCOs also.

Workshop

Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists will organise a one-day workshop on `Radioactivity,' for students and teachers of DAV Senior Secondary School in Mogappair on July 30. Principles of nuclear chemistry, radioactivity and its measurement and application will be covered.

Founder's Day

Grace Matriculation Higher Secondary School celebrated Founder's Day on Tuesday. Inspector General of Police Lallawm Sanga presided over the function and urged the students to do their best.

Computer literacy

GSS Jain Vidyalaya organised a computer literacy programme for mothers at the school campus in Vepery. The programme focused on how to access the Internet.
