BANGALORE: The Transport Commissioner on Thursday said that domestic LPG cylinders cannot be allowed to be used in autorickshaws. A section of the media had reported quoting a Deputy Commissioner of Transport that autorickshaws will be allowed to use domestic LPG cylinders for a short period. Auto drivers had blocked Residency Road on Wednesday in protest against non-availability of gas at a dispensing station. The Transport Commissioner said there are 71,848 autorickshaws in the city out of which 21,472 were fitted with approved gas kits. There are 15 authorised LPG dispensing stations for vehicles at the following locations: Varadaraja Service Station, Rajajinagar; Engrades Gasolene, Mysore Road; Kaveri Service Station, Koramangala; Venkateshwara Service Station, Yelahanka; KFCSC Banashankari; HP Autocare, Mahadevpura; Madhu Traders, Kengeri; Highway Needs, Yelahanka; Gautam Service Station, Yeshwantpur; Nagpal's Service Station, Residency Road; Maruthi Service Station, Nayandahalli; Lorry Owners' Association, Yeshwantpur; Arunodaya, BTM Layout; Ramachandra, Briand Square; and ELF Yeshwantpur. Another seven stations are coming up. Only authorised and approved gas kits with safety equipment are allowed to be fitted in autorickshaws. Using LPG cylinders without safety equipment can, and have led to fire accidents and were not considered safe for commuters, the Transport Commissioner said. During the past 10 days because of the LPG transporters strike, supply has been affected. With the strike called off, normal supply has been restored, he has said.
