NEW DELHI: Over 60,000 salaried people, pensioners and senior citizens on Thursday filed their Income Tax returns on the first day of a special four-day camp organised by the Income Tax Department in Hall No. 11 of Pragati Maidan here. And during the course of the day as many as 500 spot refunds were made to senior citizens by the Department. With three more days to go for the camp, the Department is of the opinion that the rush will only grow in the days to come. Of the 6.5lakh taxpayers, nearly 4lakh are expected to file their returns at the camp till July 31. The Department had set up 150 counters, including 10 help desks, where all kinds of general and specific queries were answered on Thursday. A total of 92 officers and 500 personnel were deployed at these counters. For the senior citizens, 42 counters were set up. For the convenience of the visitors, the Dept. had this time for the first time taken up an air-conditioned hall, provided parking within Pragati Maidan, and set up special counters along with UTI and National Stock Depository Limited to enable people at to apply for their PAN numbers and to file their returns on the basis of the receipt issued to them.
