Advts: Classifieds | Employment | Obituary | Kerala
Women have established their presence in almost every walk of life in Kerala, where they outnumber men. But in the field of politics, their presence is still negligible here, although the legal requirement to set apart one-third of posts for them at the panchayat level has ensured a role for them at that level. Only eight of the 140 members of the present State Assembly are women. President Abdul Kalam pointed to this mismatch in his address to the Assembly on July 28.
