CHENNAI: In a sudden development in the "fake stamp paper scam," the Tamil Nadu Government has suspended T. Radhakrishnan, Inspector-General of Police, Railways, and transferred Amit Varma, Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP), Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CB CID). The ADGP has not been given any posting. A.P. Mohamed Ali, who was serving as a Deputy Inspector-General of Police in the CB CID, was placed under suspension soon after he was arrested on July 1, 2004 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) along with S. Sankar, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chennai, in connection with the alleged scam. Their suspension hasn't been revoked yet. The investigating agency is yet to file the charge sheet. Besides Mohamed Ali and Sankar, R. Sadhu, an Administrative Officer of the Life Insurance Corporation, and Kennedy (35) who hails from Karnataka, were arrested in the case. After taking over the case from the CB CID on the orders of the Supreme Court, the CBI had conducted enquiries with officers belonging to the special unit.
